the birdfeeder…

Magpies,  blue jays, even an owl…we see all of these beautiful birds flying around our backyard.  But it’s a robin that the girls have named, “Robbie”.  He comes and sits out the window at breakfast time, sometimes lunch and the girls believe that he has become attached to us.  So that when we see a robin around town, the zoo in calgary or outside a store in red deer, we believe with our whole hearts that he followed us there and cannot bear to be apart from us.

So this morning we painted a little house for ‘Robbie’ because of course he needs to be more comfortable if he is going to be around us for a while.  It would have been ideal to paint outside on the deck in the fresh air and sunshine but as it turns out 65 mph prairie winds aren’t conducive to that.  So we settled for inside…

wow!  what a prodigy with the paint writing her name.  ok, actually it was me…but isn’t it interesting how all of a sudden the painted name seems pretty remedial.

the finished product…

so it turns out that prairie gales don’t make hanging the birdfeeder any easier…

while this looks like such a picture of serenity and calm waiting for our friend to come and feast, I just heard the girls playing out back yell, “oh, no!  our birdseed.”  apparently birdseed and our little house may not feed anyone until the wind dies down???  and now I have to go comfort Sela, who is crying, about how her bird can’t eat now…

I’ll leave you with this happy image instead…

  1. I loved this entry……it reminds me to actually get the food for our bird feeder that is just hanging there without any seeds. Miss you friend….I love how you embrace the moments with your children.
